CBSE Textbook Row: After much discussion about the Class 9 textbook chapter on “Dating and Relationships,” the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has finally issued a statement on its X(formally Twitter) account. Calling it baseless and incorrect, CBSE said, “A section of media is wrongly attributing a book to be a publication of CBSE containing objectionable material on dating and relationships according to the reports. This is totally baseless and incorrect.” The contents of the chapter which are going viral on social media are in fact from a book titled A Guide to Self Awareness and Empowerment written by Gagan Deep Kaur and Published by G.Ram Books(P) Ltd. Educational Publishers, the board further stated.

The CBSE neither publishes any books nor recommends books of any private publishers,” the board further added. To remind our readers, a social media post gained widespread attention when a user shared images of the chapter titled ‘Dating and Relationships: Understanding Yourself and the Other Person.’ Although the original post did not mention whether the book was claimed to be a publication of CBSE, netizens began labeling it as a CBSE book.

The post received mixed reactions from the post. While some stated it was a good move, others condemned it. The chapter dealt with relationship terms such as ghosting, catfishing, and cyberbullying. Reacting to this post, Tinder India, a dating app wrote,”next chapter : how to deal with breakups 😭.”
Calling it a good move, a user wrote, “CBSE Class 9 textbooks to have chapters on dating and relationships. Good move. These days, most kids around that age do end up dating. Smartness lies in educating them about this & safe intercourse instead of being in denial about this.”

I am so happy to see this chapter! The adolescent age is when you need to learn about relationships and life building skills!
It's better to be called Family-Life Education!
